ARTIST’S STATEMENT:

 I have lived and worked in Ann Arbor for more than half of my adult life. The city and its surrounding area have become very familiar to me, and yet I find new delights each season.

 In this body of work, the streets of downtown and the local farms and rural scenery allow me the opportunity to seek something  extraordinary in the every-day views I encounter. As an architect I am naturally drawn to the forms of buildings, and I often like to find instances of nature interacting with them. I have employed an exaggerated color palette and vigorous brushwork to energize these aspects of my observations.

 I hope to communicate something unexpected in each picture I paint. The subject matter may have an underlying “picturesque” quality, or it may not. I work to reveal something else, something captivating, in what one might otherwise dismiss as ordinary or banal.

History:

Dan has exhibited his art for more than two decades. He exhibited and sold his work in art fairs across the country from Orlando, Florida to Petoskey, Michigan. He had a booth at the Ann Arbor Art Fairs for 13 years. In recent years, Dan has sold his art excuslively through his studio and select galleries.
